It is always useful to watch films/movies/TV programs with or without subtitles when you learn a foreign language. They develop your listening and speaking skills.
Some tips while watching a movie in English:
- watch short parts at first - ->to be more patient and not to lose your enthusiasm
- make notes while you're listening, collect unknown words&expressions on a paper then look them up from a dictionary
- dare to repeat the right #native English pronunciations loudly as many times as you need
- find synonyms and antonyms of the previously learnt new words
- write sentences with the newly acquired words&expressions
Practising English beyond the series 'Friends':
To be frank, I also love the American evergreen TV series, FRIENDS, loads. I'm on the opinion that this is one of the best masterpieces in sitcom related film industry. But highlighting the fact, there are way too much other similarly well created situation comedies from which English learners can improve their vocabulary. I am keen on watching really good, blockbusters - movies, films, TV series. Either packed with action, thrilling scenes or gooey romantic moments.
But the truth is that we must keep up with fashion and sometimes it is needed to leave the past behind (only for some time) and to change for another genre or just another series.
I still can not help being glued to the screen for some fun (of course, in an educational way). By the way, can brainwashing still be a current concept for some parts of TV industry...?
Anyway... Some of my favourites these days on screen:
Terror; While you were sleeping, Shameless; Passengers, Te válassz! ( a French movie with some funny English speaking parts ;-))
Activity: search for the genres of the upper mentioned films, and for the main characters.
