Picture description - blurb
...a description from my point of view...
Previously, in an older blog here, you could read a short lesson plan related to a picture description exercise.
Now, I would like to describe this photo with my own words.
PICTURE DESCRIPTION
It’s a colorful photo of a bookshop for children. As we can see, it was taken during the daytime as outside the shop there are much natural lights. I think the photo was taken by either the owner of the bookstore or a passerby.
I like the store’s design in deed. It is really funny and attractive. The name of this shop is also very inventive. The whole decoration makes me feel like entering a circus or stepping inside a children’s book. I am keen on visiting shops in my free time, especially bookshops. I love windowshopping, too. What’s more, quite often I just visit bookstores and have a look at the newest editions of books to hang around alone or with some friends.
As for me, this shopwindow is truly educational and artful at the same time. It easily draws the passerbys’ attention to enter this wonderland for a few minutes for intellectual recreation. The bright antique style lamps/lights put a big emphasis on the interior design of this place.
However, we can not see the whole bookstore inside. But some parts in the foreground, such as shelves full of notebooks, books with various colors of the rainbow disclose a bit from the secret products and magical characteristics of this place. I am sure this site is perfect not only for youngsters but for adults, as well.
On the other hand, if I rely on my imagination, I can also see the other parts of this store inside. In my view, there are more wooden shelves with loads of books, postcards, stuffed animals from bedtime stories.
As I see it, the owner of this shop could be a young lady whose passion is books, mainly children’s books. I am taking the risk that she is a bookworm and a writer too.
I am fond of the style of this book. I have already visited similar places where there is a bookstore with a café, too. I believe that these newly designed/nostalgic/vintage style bookshops are very useful to be visited more and more often at any age. Since reading books, even children books are instructive. Using such shopwindow decoration is like a perfect commercial which makes people step inside and learn more about the world of letters/words.
All in all, people should visit either bookstores or libraries, or both again and again. They provide us peace, harmony, education and a chance to travel in time and escape from reality whenever we feel down.
Reading books also has the power of healing the body and the mind. What’s more, a good story/tale can teach us about what is good&bad; virtues and failures; love, family, friendship, etc. Namely, a truly good bookstore is like a helpful teacher, as I take it. It teaches about morality by putting us together into a better person. It gives us benign personality traits. It develops our imagination, creativity, literacy and humanity.
It can be an interesting & playful family program as well if parents visit bookstores with their kids. Here they can read together and enjoy the moments that they spend with each other.
Looking at this photo makes me feel being more passionate about rediscovering places like this.
As for reading books, I am on the opinion that we need to be conscious about what we read. Instead of horrors, action - filled scary books, sometimes we should focus on more philosophical ones (even for the little ones). Stories like that teach us about social values, culture and solidarity.
Besides, it is also advisable to read books, magazines or newspapers in foreign languages to improve your vocabulary and reading skill in another language. We should reduce watching tv and read a bit more. As watching other people’s lives on the screen obstacles us to create and live our own dreams/creativity.
